What are Individual Writing Consultations and why would I use them?
Individual Writing Consultations are appointments with Graduate Writing Center Advisors who meet with you to discuss your draft. Consultations help writers experience an objective and constructive analysis of their work, relieve their writing-related anxiety, and overcome obstacles in the writing process. Advisors will help you bolster the strengths and combat the weaknesses in your writing.
How does a consultation work?
Schedule a consultation using “View Appointments.” Create your account and your password to access the online scheduler. Then choose the available time that works for you and save your appointment. You may upload the writing you wish to discuss at that time or do it later. You will receive a confirmation and a reminder about your appointment through your email.
You are able to upload your document to your consultation at any time before the day of your appointment through the scheduler’s upload function. If your document is 10 pages or less, please upload your document at least 24 hours in advance of your appointment. If your document is longer than 10 pages, please upload it at least 48 hours before your scheduled appointment and book an hour-long appointment. In no way should your document exceed 20 double-space pages per appointment. Additionally, if you want help on specific sections or aspects of your writing, please note this when you schedule your appointment.
Always bring a printed copy of your piece or your laptop with the document when you come to the consultation. The Graduate Writing Center does not provide printing services.
