2022 New Student Information and Orientation

NB: Beginning in Fall 2022, students in Global Affairs should consult the Jackson School's New Student Information

Important Dates and Deadlines

March-April 

Receive your Yale NetID and PIN to activate your Yale Account

April 15 
Deadline to respond to offer of admission

April 20

On-campus housing application opens. On-campus housing is limited, so plan to apply and choose your room early. Please visit the Yale Graduate Housing website for more information about on-campus graduate housing, including a webinar for the 2022-2023 academic year scheduled for Thursday, April 7 at 11:00 am EST.

May 1 to June 30
Complete online form to get a new Yale student ID card at Orientation. Upload a photo for your Yale ID card on the ID Card Photo Upload web page by June 30. New Student ID cards will be distributed as part of GSAS Orientation Week (ID cards cannot be picked up early)

July 15
Deadline to submit official transcripts to the Graduate School

Deadline for uploading vaccination, immunization, and health history documentation to Yale Health (including COVID-19 vaccination status)

August 1

On-campus Graduate Housing occupancy licenses begin; contact Yale Housing with questions

August 15

Student Health coverage begins

August 16-19

Schedule I-9 verification appointment

Departmental ID pick up - consult your department for more information. If you have a health or transcript hold, you will not be able to pick up your ID. You can check the status of your registration holds through Student Information Systems (SIS).

August 22

Deadline to complete three required online trainings in the GSAS New Student Orientation course on Canvas

Deadline to complete University-wide Preventing and Responding to Sexual Misconduct training

August 24

Fall-term online course selection begins. Please consult with your department about course requirements and selections before finalizing your course schedule online.

August 31
First stipend payments for new Ph.D. students

Fall-term classes begin

September 15

Due date for Yale Health Coverage Waivers

Due date for Yale Health Family Member (spouse or children) Enrollment

Health Award Fellowship Information for Ph.D. students with Spouses/Partners and Dependent Children.

Due date to signup for optional Dental and/or Eye Care coverage from outside providers and pay associated premium fees.  

September 30
Deadline for Family Support Policy enrollment for Ph.D. students with children, for fall term

Orientation Schedule

Subject to change. Additional GSAS social activities and tours will be advertised on Yale Connect.

August 15-19

Departmental ID pick up. Please contact your department to see when they will be distributing new student IDs. Some departments may have additional orientation activities planned during this time.

August 18

10-11:30am - OISS Orientation for International Master's Students (Option 1)

August 19

10-11:30am - OISS Orientation for International Ph.D. Students (Option 1)

August 22

8:30am - GSAS Matriculation Ceremony (Cross Campus)

10:30am - Mandatory In-person Training I (Individual assignments will be sent by email)

12:00pm - Dean's Luncheon (Commons - Yale Schwarzman Center)

1:30pm - Mandatory In-person Training II (Individual assignments will be sent by email)

3:00pm - Understanding Your Funding - Master's (Marsh Hall - Yale Science Building)

4:00pm - Understanding Your Funding - Ph.D. (Marsh Hall - Yale Science Building)

August 23

8:30-10am - OISS Orientation for International Master's Students (Option 2)

1-2pm - Introduction to New Haven (Davies Auditorium)

2-3pm - Yale Public Safety Panel (Davies Auditorium)

3-5pm - Information Fair (Commons - Yale Schwarzman Center)

August 24

8:30-10am - OISS Orientation for International Ph.D. Students (Option 2)

12pm - OISS International Student Lunch

1-2pm - Staying Well in Graduate School Panel (TBA)

2-3pm - Thriving in Graduate School Panel (TBA)

3-5pm - Student Activities Fair (Commons - Yale Schwarzman Center)

August 25-26
