The Graduate School established the Dean's Fund for Student-Organized Symposia to support graduate students who wish to plan and conduct academic conferences that address their fields of study.

Such activities offer an opportunity for graduate students to build relationships with peers working in their specialties at other institutions, as well as provide them with practical experience in developing and administering an academic event.

The Graduate School offers grants of up to $1,000 for student-organized symposia.

Award Deadlines:

For symposia occurring in the fall term: September 15
For symposia occurring in the spring term: January 15

To apply please fill out the online application form at

Note: Students proposing an event to the Dean’s Fund must also request that their DGS send an e-mail to Dean Richard Sleight evaluating the basic merits of the proposed event and any planned involvement of faculty members in the department.

For questions please contact Dean Richard Sleight.
