Driving Directions
Interstate 95:
From the north: Connect to I-91 North in New Haven; take Exit 3 (Trumbull Street) and follow directions below for I-91.
From the south: Connect to I-91 North in New Haven (left exit); take Exit 3 (Trumbull Street) and follow directions below for I-91.
Interstate 91:
From the north or south: Take Exit 3 (Trumbull Street). Stay in the middle lane and continue straight onto Trumbull Street to the fifth traffic light. Turn left onto Temple Street and continue for one block. Turn right onto Grove Street and then take the very next right onto Hillhouse Avenue.
Route 15 (Wilbur Cross/Merritt Parkways)
From the north: Take Exit 61. Drive south on Whitney Avenue for approximately five miles. Whitney Avenue splits and becomes Temple Street. Follow Temple for one block and turn right on Grove Street and then take the very next right onto Hillhouse Avenue.
From the south: Take Exit 57. Drive east on Route 34 (Derby Avenue) for approximately five miles past the Yale Athletic Fields. Turn left onto Route 10 North, Ella T. Grasso Boulevard. Proceed to the fifth traffic light and turn right onto Whalley Avenue. Whalley becomes Broadway in 1 mile, and Broadway becomes Elm Street in the center of the Yale campus. Continue on Elm to Whitney Avenue. Take a left on Whitney, then another left onto Grove Street. In two blocks, take a right onto Hillhouse.
Parking
Downtown New Haven has more than 15,000 parking spots, with metered street parking as well as commercial garages and surface lots. All parking meters are in effect until 9 pm, Monday through Saturday; time limits are waived after 5 pm, so you can pay for up to 4 hours of parking in the evening. Use coins, credit/debit cards or the Parkmobile app to pay for metered parking. From Friday night through early Monday morning, you may park for free in many Yale parking lots, like lot 51 behind the Gym near HGS.
By Train
New Haven's busy Union Station is served by MetroNorth Commuter rail west to New York, and Shoreline East to New London. Amtrak passenger rail service to Boston also stops at Union station. By Air
