The Graduate School sponsors online summer reading courses in French, German, Italian & Spanish for GSAS doctoral students. Reading courses are open to students at all levels of language competency. The school funds the tuition and technology fee for these courses in order to assist students in satisfying degree requirements or pursuing dissertation research. Information about the individual courses can be found on the Yale Summer Session website.
Students should apply online through Yale Summer Session. During the online application process students will have the application fee waived if, in the Education section, they
- respond to “Please select one” with “I am a Yale Graduate Student”;
- enter their Yale Student ID number (a nine-digit number which can be found on students’ ID cards);
- respond to “Please select one” by selecting “Graduate School”.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will receive certification from the Yale Summer Session bearing the course grade. These courses will not appear on transcripts issued by the University. A student who fails to complete the course in which he or she has enrolled may be disqualified from applying to Graduate School funding programs in the future.
