The Graduate School sponsors online summer reading courses in French, German, Italian & Spanish for GSAS doctoral students. Reading courses are open to students at all levels of language competency. The school funds the tuition and technology fee for these courses in order to assist students in satisfying degree requirements or pursuing dissertation research. Information about the individual courses can be found on the Yale Summer Session website.
Students should apply online through Yale Summer Session and complete the entire application. The application fee will be waived if the following specific information is entered:
- Education Page: Select Yale Graduate Student
- Course Selection Page: Select the language reading course
- GSAS Information Page: Yale PhD Student
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will receive certification from the Yale Summer Session bearing the course grade. These courses will not appear on transcripts issued by the University. A student who fails to complete the course in which he or she has enrolled may be disqualified from applying to Graduate School funding programs in the future.
