The Graduate School and Yale University offer various privileges and resources to graduate students with family members - spouses/partners and/or children. We know that your partner and family members are important to your success and happiness while in graduate school. There are many ways for them to get involved and be included in your Yale experience.
The Graduate School offers Ph.D. students a flexible Family Support Policy with paid parental relief (paid time off for birth or adoption), free Yale Health care coverage for children, spouse health care subsidy, and generous annual family funds you can use for childcare costs or any other family need.
In the Graduate School, we welcome student spouses, partners, and children at many of our activities and events as appropriate. The Graduate Student Life (GSL) Office at the McDougal Graduate Center invites graduate spouses and partners and their children to use its common spaces and facilities, and to participate in GSL activities as appropriate.
See below for specific information for:
- Graduate School Student Spouses/Partners (S/P) - married, civil union and domestic partners, and “singnificant others”
- Graduate School Students with Children (including students considering becoming parents while in graduate school)
- Pet care resources - Don't forget your pet, as animal companions may be a part of your family, too.
