Stella M. Hammond Planetary Solutions Fellowship
Established in 2025, the Stella M. Hammond Planetary Solutions Fellowship is Yale’s premier doctoral fellowship training interdisciplinary leaders to solve climate change, biodiversity loss, and planetary crises.
The new multidisciplinary fellowship was launched in partnership with Yale Planetary Solutions (YPS), which is spearheading the university’s commitment to generating innovative ideas in support of a thriving planet. It is open to PhD students from every PhD program at Yale.
Each YPS doctoral fellow will receive a $3,500 increment to their stipend for each year of the two-year fellowship. Fellows will also receive a research support budget of $2,000 to be used at the fellow’s discretion in collaboration with their advisor over their time as a student.
The program will support participants in their professional development through workshops, speaker series, stakeholder engagement, communication, and more.
Application and Selection Process
To apply to the Stella M. Hammond Planetary Solutions Fellowship, students must be currently enrolled in their first or second year of a Yale PhD program through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
Priority will be given to students who research aligns with the YPS mission and has potential for planetary impact. Applications should demonstrate how the fellowship will enhance a student’s training and goals. Faculty advisor support is required.
