Alicia Ellis

Alicia E. Ellis is an associate professor of German in the Department of German and Russian at Colby College and the vice-chair of the Yale Graduate School Alumni Board. Her monograph, Language and Identity in Franz Grillparzer’s Classical Dramas: Figuring the Female, was published in 2021 (Lexington Books). Her teaching and research interests beyond German literature and cultural studies include Black European Studies, Black Germany, African American and Caribbean literatures, Black feminist poetics, migrant literatures, and the modern short story. Dr. Ellis also serves on a number of editorial boards for journals and book series and is on the executive board of the German Studies Association. She was most recently invited to deliver a lecture on “The Ethnography of Literature” at the University of Chicago. Dr. Ellis is currently writing a new study that delves into creative non-fiction narratives whose topics include memory, immigration, the archive, race, and gender.
