GSAS Commencement Schedule

The University's Commencement website will contain a great deal of relevant information including payment of bills, ordering your cap & gown (deadline: April 14), and travel information for guests. Please check there regularly for questions not addressed below.

This page will be updated with more information about the Graduate School's commencement activities as it becomes available. Please reach out to with any questions you may have.

This year, Yale will celebrate the Class of 2023 with an in-person University Commencement ceremony on Monday, May 22 at 10:30 a.m. (graduates arrive at 9:00 am). Graduate students will recive two tickets to the Old Campus ceremony.

The Graduate School will host its Diploma Ceremony in Woolsey Hall for all terminal M.A., M.S., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degree recipients immediately following the University ceremony. December 2021 and May 2022 graduates are invited to attend these activities. Due to capacity limitations, recipients of en route Master's degrees are not included in the Commencement ceremonies.

Please note that you must submit your dissertation by the March 15, 2022 deadline in order to walk in the May 2022 Commencement. December 2022 graduates may be allowed to walk in the May 2023 Commencement.

At this time, we expect guests to be allowed to attend commencement exercises. Anyone who is eligible must be fully vaccinated and boosted in order to be on campus according to current university guidelines. The university continues to monitor developments in the COVID-19 pandemic, and plans for Commencement remain subject to change based on developments locally, statewide, and nationally, as well as changes in university policy. More detailed information can be found on the university’s COVID-19 website.
