Celebrating the Classes of 2020 and 2021
The University will host an Alumni Commencement for the Classes of 2020 and 2021 on Saturday, May 14th at 10:30 a.m. (graduates arrive at 9:00 am) and the Graduate School will host a Degree Ceremony for all returning terminal M.A., M.S., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degree recipients immediately following the University ceremony. December 2019, May 2020, December 2020, and May 2021 graduates will be invited to attend these activities. Students must reply to the form sent via email by April 15, 2022. If you did not receive an email invitation, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
At this time, we expect guests to be allowed to attend commencement exercises. Anyone who is eligible must be fully vaccinated and boosted in order to be on campus according to current university guidelines. The university continues to monitor developments in the COVID-19 pandemic, and plans for Commencement remain subject to change based on developments locally, statewide, and nationally, as well as changes in university policy. ALUMNI COMMENCEMENT SCHEDULE
8:45am - Graduates gather in Caulkins Courtyard at the McDougal Center (135 Prospect Street) to process to Cross Campus and join the University Procession
10:30am - University Commencement exercises begin on Old Campus. At the end of the ceremony, graduates and guests should make their way to Woolsey Hall (500 College Street) and take their seats.
12:00pm - Immediately following the University Commencement on Old Campus, the GSAS Degree Ceremony will take place in Woolsey Hall. A reception will follow in Caulkins Courtyard at the McDougal Center.
Academic Regalia – Deadline: March 31
Academic regalia is required to participate in the Commencement exercises. Information about how to order academic regalia can be found here. Orders must be placed by March 31 to avoid late fees. Please note that caps and gowns ordered via Yale’s portal are made of GreenWeaver material and intended for 1-2 uses. Yale Blue robes, velvet tams, and custom hoods are all considered custom regalia and must be ordered directly through Oak Hall.
Accommodations and General Information
Please be aware that New Haven hotels sell out early for Yale’s Commencement. If you have access to a vehicle, you may consider a hotel or Airbnb rental in the greater New Haven area. Towns like Hamden, Branford, West Haven, Milford and Orange are all within a short driving distance. Additional information regarding area lodging, parking, shuttles, services for the disabled, and more is available on the Yale Commencement website.
You will have received your diploma by mail after your degree was conferred in either 2020 or 2021. For general diploma-related questions, including certifications and translations, see the University Registrar’s Office diploma page.
