Kartiga Selvaganesan

'23 Biomedical Engineering // Imaging Specialist at Promaxo

Kartiga grew up in the Bay Area, California and studied bioengineering at UC Berkeley. She then began her east coast adventure with a few gap years working at the NIH before coming to Yale. Throughout her early science career she worked on various parts of MRI research, from creating interventional devices, dynamic phantoms, and image segmentation techniques. Her thesis work also focused on MRI, but completely reimagined the conventional system by making it cheaper with an open design, and accessible for point-of-care screening. The work has led to multiple publications, conference presentations, and even won the prestigious Summa Cum Laude Merit Award at the ISMRM Annual Meeting. She has now taken this knowledge back to the Bay Area to her role as Imaging Scientist at Promaxo Inc., a company building low-field MRIs for image guided prostate biopsies. Throughout her time in New Haven, she enjoyed hiking up East Rock, attending yoga and spin classes, cooking Indian meals for her friends, doing science outreach at various community events, and being a regular at her neighborhood wine bar. Listen to her interview today to learn more about how Kartiga utilized her time at Yale and her degree to jumpstart her career.
