Investigative Medicine
The Investigative Medicine program offers training for physicians in clinical departments who are interested in careers in clinical research. The program is designed to develop the broad knowledge base, analytical skills, creative thinking, and hand-on experience demanded of clinical researchers devoted to disease-oriented and patient-oriented investigation. The program provides the student with individualized experience encompassing formal course work and experience leading to a PhD thesis under the supervision and mentorship of a graduate school faculty member. Students can undertake thesis work in a variety of disciplines. These include but are not limited to: 1) evaluating risk factors and interventions for disease using modern concepts in quantitative methods and clinical study design, and 2) investigating the biochemical, physiological, and/or genetic basis of disease in a translational setting and/or laboratory.

Admission Requirements
Standardized Testing Requirements
MCAT is optional; GRE is not required.
English Language Requirement
TOEFL iBT or IELTS Academic is required of most applicants whose native language is not English.
You may be exempt from this requirement if you have received (or will receive) an undergraduate degree from a college or university where English is the primary language of instruction, and if you have studied in residence at that institution for at least three years.

PhD Stipend & Funding
PhD students at Yale are normally fully-funded. During their programs, our students receive a twelve-month stipend to cover living expenses and a fellowship that covers the full cost of tuition and student healthcare.
